Ancient In order to give a brief background of the present day Masonic Lodge we have to go back to ancient times, as no definite time or place can be established of its beginning. FREEMASONRY as we know it today, appeared in the early Eighteenth century and it was adopted in many jurisdictions of the Masonic Order later in that period. However, the words "FREEMASON" and "FREEMASONRY" are found in the writings on Masonry as far back as the building of King Solomon's Temple and before. Freemasonry in Georgia According to the Old Customs, Freemasonry has existed continuously since February 10, 1734. THE GRAND LODGE OF GEORGIA became an actual and legal body on December 16, 1786. Douglasville Lodge No. 289, F.& A.M., Is one of 460 lodges in the state of Georgia, which have each been granted a charter by the Grand Lodge authorities of Georgia.
